It was 20 years ago on April 25th that Clan MacAulay Association became a reality. It was the dream of many to see the re-emergence of the great Clan MacAulay. MacAulays from Ardencaple, Lochbroom, the Isle of Lewis and Northern Ireland are now one under the umbrella of Clan MacAulay Association. Tartan day is a modern celebration of Scottish Heritage and is held annually on April 6th, the same date in 1320 when the Declaration of Arbroath was signed, declaring Scottish Independence and Sovereignty. The largest celebration of Tartan Day is in New York where up to 30,000 people have been known to attend. Smaller events are held elsewhere around the world, but sadly very few in Scotland which should be the focal point of the celebrations. Continue reading
As many of you read in the March issue of the MacAulay Matters newsletter, Clan MacAulay International recently embarked on a cultural twinning with the Scozzesi Pipe Band from Italy!
At the time of its release Scozzesi were busy preparing to play at the Scotland-Italy game in Rome on March 17th. Apparently there was a wee wager between Chief Hector and Luca!

One of the most prominent MacAulays in Ireland (she’s on their money!) and in the United States is the Irish-born Sister Catherine McAuley. She founded the Sisters of Mercy and by extension, Mercy Health, the 5th largest healthcare system in the United States. Mercy Health is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Her legacy has impacted literally millions of people worldwide. Click here to read about this amazing woman.
