Early morning showers gave way to a perfect Fall weekend for the 51st Annual Stone Mountain Highland Games & Scottish Festival near Atlanta, Georgia USA. Colorful leaves shaded the Clan Village where 106 Clans celebrated their common Scottish roots. Clan MacAulay was thrilled to have Clan Guthrie as neighbors again this year. Clan President, Breeze Guthrie’s “day job” is owner of a bar business and he knows how to throw a party. By Sunday close, we were one big happy clan with many a “wee dram” having been exchanged during the weekend. A new neighbor this year was Clan Montgomery — no cows were stolen and we all survived the weekend to see another day! For next year, we are even thinking of mocking up the memorial to the last Montgomery/MacAulay battle as part of our displays.
Since we added a 2nd tent as a “back room, our Clan tent was a “double wide” which proved to be a great space to welcome our many visitors and member attendees. We were honored to have Clan Genealogy Coordinator, Kathy McCauley, as a guest tent host. Kathy traveled cross-country to Georgia from Oregon. Another first-timer at Stone Mountain and also in a host role was Clan History Coordinator, Colin McCawley, who recently moved to the Atlanta area from Washington state. Kathy’s and Colin’s knowledge of MacAulay genealogy, DNA, and history were a big draw and made a huge contribution to our successful weekend not to mention the PARTY in the “back room”. Colin and I are already thinking up new things to add to the tent and new fun things to do in order to showcase and promote Clan MacAulay. I think we’ll be establishing Clan MacAulay as one of the most lively and fun clan tents in the village! I can’t wait until next year!
