The Investiture of the Commissioners is a ceremony where we officially invest Commissioners after their approval by the Executive Committee. After accepting their responsibilities, the Commissioners kneel while the Chief invests them by resting our ceremonial sword on their dominant shoulder.
This is followed by sharing whisky from the Clan Quaich, a traditional Scottish two-handled drinking cup. During historic Clan gatherings, heads of Clans would fill the quaich with their desired drink. After taking the first drink, the Clan head would then pass the quaich to every member in the Clan or Clans, if more than one Clan was present. The sharing of the quaich shows that you trust one another to share the cup. Finally, each Commissioner is presented with decorative scroll proclaiming their role as an official representative of the Clan MacAulay Association.
