The Fergus Scottish Festival was held on August 11 through 13 in beautiful Fergus, Ontario, Canada. Fergus is one of the largest Scottish Festivals in Canada featuring the heavy events, highland dancing, and of course, pipes and drums. It also presents amazing entertainment which this year featured Glass Tiger, Albannach and the Snake Charmer, aka Archy Jay, a brilliant bagpiper from India now living in Toronto. There is also a focus on clans and Scottish Heritage, and this year there were more than 40 clans represented at the festival, with Clan MacAulay being one of them.
We arrived on site on Friday afternoon to set up our tent to the sounds of Glass Tiger performing their sound check on the main stage. We had an opportunity to go around and see the other clan tents before the gates opened and were able to catch up with friend of Clan MacAulay, Emily from the Scotland Shop.
Over the course of the weekend, we had several MacAulays stop by our tent, including two who joined the Clan Association on the spot. One of the new members marched in with us at the Calling of the Clans as part of the opening ceremonies on Saturday at noon. All in all a very enjoyable and successful event!
