2 April 1912
The Titanic leaves Belfast
On this day in 1912 the Titanic left Belfast for the first time. Having been constructed in Belfast by builders Harland and Wolff the ship was finally ready for sea trials. She left Belfast under the command of Captain Edward J. Smith, RNR and was towed out to Belfast Lough. There, her compasses were adjusted and speed trials took place.
After successfully completing the trials she left Belfast for the last time, enroute for Southampton.
If you will be in Belfast around the time of gathering consider a trip to the Titanic Museum.
