Time to Pack!

Passport

We put this topmost.  Check your passport and ensure the expiration date is not within 3-6 months of the event.  Some countries take up to 6 months to renew.  Some airlines will not let you fly if the passport expiration date is too close to your travel dates.  Update it now!  This process can take time – do it while there’s not a crush!

Canadian Non-Resident Inter-Province Vehicle Liability Insurance Card

In the event you plan to drive your car from the United States into Canada, please be aware that you MUST contact your car insurance company and obtain a “Canadian Non-Resident Inter-Province Vehicle Liability Insurance Card”.  They are free from the insurance companies (printed on a special type of paper) and are very important in the event you are pulled over or in an accident while driving in Canada.   If you have multiple car vehicles, you can obtain one for each car that you have insured.  NOTE:  the card is only valid for the period of time your policy is current.  A new card must be obtained each time you renew your policy.

Weather

The climate is quite pleasant in Cape Breton in August.  The high seasonal norm is 23°C/74°F.  In the morning the temperature drops to 15°C/60°F. It can also be rainy. Day length in Cape Breton Island in August is about 14½ hours with sunrise around 6 am and sunset around 8:30 pm.
With the weather and event agenda in mind, here are some ideas on what to bring and event-appropriate apparel.
      • Layers and options are always advisable (swimwear, shorts, capris, trousers/jeans, t-shirts, fleeces, jackets, etc.)
      • Just in case — rain gear, umbrellas, etc. are good ideas
      • Comfortable walking shoes
