Mothering Sunday is a day in the UK, Ireland and some Commonwealth countries honouring mother churches, the church where one is baptized and becomes “a child of the church”. Celebrated since the Middle Ages on the fourth Sunday of Lent Christians have historically visited their mother church. It has since grown to also honour ‘mothers of earthly homes’, the Virgin Mary and Mother Nature. In the early 1900’s the day began to morph toward the Mother’s Day we know today. Spend the day honouring the important women in your life past and present and have a Happy Mothering Sunday!
