Grianán of Aileach

One of the stops on our excursion day during the 2026 Gathering will be the stone fort on the top of Greenan Mountain called Grianán of Aileach. The fort is thought to have been built by a king before AD800. The vantage point on the top of the mountain allowed him to view his territories and beyond. The current structure is a reconstruction and now a National Monument. To learn more about the fort visit Heritage Ireland.
