Fun “down under” – A Scottish festival with a Kiwi twist!

November 11 found Clan MacAulay’s New Zealand Ambassador, Ruth Cooper hosting the MacAulay tent at the Hororata Highland Games.   The games attract over hundreds of competitors who compete in Highland Dancing, Piping and Drumming, Tug O’ War, Highland Spin (a fleece to garment challenge), Small Bore Shooting, Amateur Scottish heavy athletics (men’s and women’s) and the Oceania Heavyweight Championship (professional Scottish heavy athletics). Competitors come from throughout New Zealand and internationally to compete.  While the attendance numbers for this year are not yet available, 2022 saw over 10,000 attendees, making this a major event.  Clan MacAulay proudly displayed our heritage and ancestry along side the many other clans represented in the Clan Lane.  Check out all the photos from this event HERE  and all our event photos in the Photo Gallery.
